Keyboard layout switching in KDE

I have two layouts: English and Russian. I also chose <Alt+Shift> combination to switch between these layouts. But <Alt+Shift> works only after I switch to Russian, i.e. I load KDE with English as default, if I try <Alt+Shift> layout doesn't change. If I switch to Russian, and then press <Alt+Shift> I switch layout to English. If I press <Alt+Shift> again layout switches to Russian and so on. The problem is that I want to start working in KDE with English layout and switch to Russian by pressing <Alt+Shift>, not first choose Russian and only then have possibility to switch between layouts. Thanks.

I have [had] exactly the same problem, although I use dual English and Serbian keyboard layout, and I use Mandrake 10.0 Official.

In KDE you can change the switching combination. I have changed standard <Alt>+<Shift> to <Win>+<Esc> and now it works both ways. This is not ideal, but works.

My bigger problem is that standard keyboard shortcuts like <Ctrl>+C, <Ctrl>+V etc don't work when I use Serbian keyboard layout. This is so anoying... If I want to copy something I have to make sure that I switched to English keyboard.

Any help will be highly appreciated.

It's amazing but my Ctrl+C and so on works in Russian layout! But I still use <alt+shift>. I'll try your advice, but this is probably KDE's bug Thanks.
