kernel upgrade

Can anyone point me to a tutorial on upgrading the kernel. At present I’m running Mandrake 9.1 with the 2.4 kernel. I would like to upgrade to 2.6. I will need a guide to assist me.

kernel 2.6.x

Code:

cd /usr/src/linux-2.6.9
make menuconfig
make && make modules_install
cp arch/i386/boot/bzImage /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.9
cp System.map /boot/System.map-2.6.9
cp .config /boot/config-2.6.9
# .... edit /etc/lilo.conf
lilo
