Hello folk's, i'm in trouble. Wondering if any of ye can help me.
I was updating my kernel for 2.4.20 to 2.4.21. I did :
make mrproper
make menuconfig
make dep
make bzImage
make modules
make modules_install
copied the kernel image (arch/i386/boot/bzImage) and System.map to /boot. Edited lilo.conf and ran lilo.
Rebooted and, bang ... I get LIL 9090909090. You get the picture.
Here is what I tried to restore my system:
I have knoppix on CD. I booted up from the CD, mounted my root partition and chrooted to my system. In my chrooted system, I did :
"lilo -v -b /dev/fd0"
to put lilo on a floppy (cos I didn't want to risk damaging my mbr even more) I got that my permission was denied. (?????)
After that I tried doing this in knoppix (so not the chrooted environment) :
"lilo -C /etc/lilo.conf -r /mnt/hda4 -b /dev/fd0"
(hda4 is my root partition) Again, got the same "permission denide" .
Just calling lilo from knoppix won't work because it will complain that the file system is read only, even when I want to wright to the floppy.
I'm running LFS and I was stupid enough not to make a boot disk. That will teach me
Next I'm going to try tomsrtbt instead of knoppix. If someone has a better idea, please tell me.
