kernel recompile question
i downloaded the 2.6.5 image and everythign works until boot time
i get a message that says "kernel panic: no init found. try passing init= option to kernel i'm kind of new where linux is concerned, so i'm not sure what to do. truthfully i was surprised that i got it to work as much as i did. :) anyways, thanks in advance for the help Danforth |
is there any way you can show more of the error ...
there are many many reasons why kernel panics occur, and just showing the the kernel panic message doesn't really narrow the problem down ... and while your at it, can you give a step by step on what you did when recompiling your kernel. just for we can see if you missed anything ... and also the changes you made to your lilo.conf or grub.conf file ... pending on your bootloader... |
process i followed and the text of the error message.
http://www.digitalhermit.com/~kwan/kernel.html <--- is the process i followed.
recompiled to kernel 2.6.5 grub is Configured correctly during loading of the kernel i get the following messages mounting root filesystems mount:error 19 mounting ext3 pivotrootivotroot </sysroot, /sysroot/initrd> failed:2 umount /initrd/proc/ failed:2 freeing unused kernel memory :236k freed 'Kernel panic:No init found. try passing init= option to kernel' and then it stops... what does this error message asking me to do, exactly ? Thanks in advance for the help. :) dan4th |
