kernel panic on root fs after reboot - used to work!!!
My company moved over the weekend. Good move except for one casualty. One server consistently boots to the lilo prompt, then scans the hardware and dumps to:
"Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 08:25".
I am assuming the "08:25" is the controller and target mapping of some sort, but don't know for sure. System is RH 6.2 with an older 2.2.14 kernel. It has an onboard Adaptec SCSI ctrlr with 2x 9GB drives (I believe they are mirrored via s/w cause sending a CTRL-ALT-DEL after the kernel panic gives the line "stopping MD devices" before it reboots). Also has an AMI Megaraid ctlr with 5x 18GB drives. I've spent quite a few hours trying to get this box up. I can't boot off of a cdrom. I've checked all h/w... none was damaged in the move (none that I can tell). All hardware seems to be up and operational.
I need help before I boot from an installation image floppy and re-install from CD.
