kernel panic

After left my RedHat Box and apache server running for a weekend, I shutdown X server and left it running only in shell mode. I had a firewall running only in X environment. The problem was that somebody tried to hack my box. Then after a reboot, a have a message from the init, like DriveSeekError. Tried to boot under single linux to run e2fsck, but now i have a Kernel Panic: No init found. Try passing init= option to kernel.

sounds to me like the harddisk is dying. if your sure youve been hacked then ask for this thread to be moved to linux-security, but i would say its more likely that you have a failing harddisk, run badblocks on it and see what you get.

I know! But that was a test...

"are you sure, what evidence do you have of this?" Running tcpdump showed me all atemps...

For sure that the disk is dying.... The problem is that I don't even have shell access... GRRR

thats what rescue disks are for

starting with linux single/rescue at boot time? Didn't work. Rescue disks?! Dont have it. Where can I take them?

when you install most distros ask you if you wanna create a rescue disk in case you cant boot. try passing init=/bin/bash to the kernel at boot.

You can use your RedHat CD.

Hum... I instaled RedHat over FTP! I'm using grub instead of lilo, maybe i can use that param in grub. I will try and tell you something right way. 10x all.
