I removed the cd burner from my Win98/MDK7.1 system and installed a removeable hdd unit.Reset remaining DVD-rom as master on primary ide controller and left hdd on udma/66 controller.While I was at it I installed a nic.
Now when I boot to Linux, it gets so far and the process stops and I get this:
"Kernel panic-VFS:unable to load fs"
If I use a linux boot floppy I can access my system just fine.Also when I looked at the Grub bootloader menu there were not any changes that I noticed.
I did notice during boot (before the Kernel panic) that it was looking at hdi1 thru hdi8- sorry but my drives end at hde9(swap file).I sure could use some help with this.TIA

When using LILO-boot you should give a parameter like:
root=/dev/hdd1
according to where your root-filesystem is located.

Did you move the harddrive containing your linux root root system?
If so then you will probably have to rewrite your MBR.
