Kernel Message Redirection

Hi all, I am looking for a way to redirect kernel messages to an alternative tty. I am annoyed of the boot messages appearing on the first console in Debian Sarge, and I want to get them to /dev/tty10, like SUSE Linux does.
Which configuration files do I have to change? Do I have to recompile the kernel (is the device to write messages to hard-coded)?

Thanks in advance,
mschutte

I wanted to see the all messages on tty12 and added such line in syslog.conf:
Code:
*.* -/dev/tty12
If you want kernel-only messages:
Code:
kern.* -/dev/tty12
To disable the annoing postings by kernel into your current console, comment out the string that states
Code:
kern.* /dev/console
Then there is a default log level of the console, but the above works, there's no necessity to continue modifications.

Thank you very much. I additionally had to add a »dmesg -n1« to /etc/init.d/boot.misc to avoid the messages on the first console.
