what should i do when after compilation kernel is too big to place it on a floppy? i can boot it using lilo with no problems, but when, for safety reasons, i want to create boot diskette, it's impossible to place it on a floppy. what should i do?

Hi,

how big is too big, and are you using zimage
or bzImage or are you talking about an uncompressed
kernel file?

Cheers,
Tink

You're looking in the wrong directory for the specific kernel file. I don't know the exact details since it's been months since I built a kernel from scratch, but try looking in the build directory somewhere. There is a file with the same name there only that it is smaller.
That is the file that you want. And use bzImage instead of zImage.

Cheers.

well i do use bzImage. i'm told that the kernel is too big after that. it says that system is 1029K, setup 2529K
