Kernel hotplugging

Maybe this is just an hypothetical question, but crossed my mind far too often...

Could it be possible to build a kernel that could be hotplugged into the system without restaring? (as in upgrading the kernel from 2.6.3 to 2.6.7 w/o the restart and all)
