kernel 2-6 testing?
Who out there other than myself is testing this new kernel?:study:
|
I have compiled and installed on my slackware box, but I haven't had a chance to really do any 'testing' yet.
slight |
yeah I have it compiled on slackware 9.. but I got mozilla firebird and thunderbird installed along with americas army and enemy territory
Runs great! :D |
I tried to compile it but it gets stuck at Uncompressing Linux on boot. :-( Why did they change the compile process??
|
That's what happened to me as well. Hung at "uncompressing kernel"
|
Runs nice for me
|
Same for me. I originally had the blank screen thing, had to go back and add all of the VT stuff to the config. Now all I get is:
Uncompressing kernel . . . . . . . . . . . . Where on my 2.4.21 kernel it says: Uncompressing kernel . . . . . . . . . . . . BIOS data check successful. (and then goes on) Anybody know what the kernel could be hanging on??? |
I had the same problem you 2 above me had, but I had to copy my 2.5 kernel config to fix the problem. Now 2.6 works wonders.
I wonder if I should post up my 2.6 config for all to edit/use and see if that fixes their problems? BTW, I have been using 2.6 for the last couple of days, so far nothing has gone wrong with the kernel. Very stable. |
you could just use make oldconfig for that, afaik
|
Seph64,
Yeah, post your config somewhere and I'll run a diff and see what's up. This shouldn't be too big of a thing... (Just like the VT stuff, I still can't find that in menuconfig... Oh, well.) |
Yep, i'm running it as we (??) speak (???). (Just a figure of speach as you can imagin, form a guy who needs spelling lessons)
|
I read all messages out loud. It helps me trick myself into thinking I am surrounded by people :D (just kidding of course ;) )
Cool |
I used makeoldconfig. Still wont work. Wierd? Why did they do away with make deps etc???
|
Well, I would say that the less steps you have to compile the bi**h the better (excuse my language).
I have an idea that might shine a light as to why this happens. I could put my kernel on a site, where you can download it. I'm not sugesting you actally use the kernel, but if my kernel boot's, we will know there is somthing wrong with you kernel, and it has nothing to do with, for example you lilo version, bios params, hard drive ect. What do you guy's think? Will it work? |
I don't know, did you put reiserfs in the kernel, or as a module, or not at all? My / is reiserfs, so I couldn't even boot, if it's not in the kernel...
