kernel 2.6 is not stable!

this is amazing !
two different computers with centos 4 (clone of redhat4) kernel 2.6.9
soooo many problems.

many strange messages on shutdown and while working.
when init 0 , the system freezes completeley.

why is this happening?
seems to me that the newer linux gets it becomes unstable and worse.
never sow redhat 5/6/7 crashes , never!!!

what do you think?

Plzz don't be so hasty, quick and precise.
seems to me that the newer linux gets it becomes unstable and worse.
The newer linux gets the more better stable it becomes.
There are a lot of other things to consider.

The only 2.6 kernel I haven't had problems with is 2.6.7. And only a very minor problem with
