Kernel 2.6.6 boots to blank screen

Sorry in advance for the lack of information, but after upgrading to 2.6.6 I just get a blank screen after selecting this kernel under lilo. I already upgraded to 2.6.5, and that went fine. This time I tried patching to 2.6.6. I don't remember seeing any error messages or anything.

First thing I tried was checking if the checksum was correct on the patch I downloaded, but it must have got deleted.

I'm probably going to just install the whole 2.6.6 from scratch without patching from 2.6.5. Before I do, could someone tell me where the location of log files related to the kernel would be so I can see if there were any errors during the build?

Thanks in advance.

Why don't you try other video modes, this may help.

you'd think they would enable all the framebuffer options by default. lots of people get the blank screen search the forums or google.

Almost the same thing happened when I installed the 2.6.7 kernel, except this time it faded to a light grey screen. I figured this must be something to do with the framebuffer options as I was playing with them to try and get a higher resolution and the bootup logo, I'll try searching to see if anyone's had the same problem.
