Question Kernel 2.5.61 "make xconfig" error

Hello,

I'm trying to compile Linux beta kernel 2.5.61, and after extracting the bz2 file I issue the command "make xconfig", and here is the result:

root@Dteyn linux-2.5.61 # make xconfig
make -f scripts/Makefile.build obj=scripts
gcc -Wp,-MD,scripts/.fixdep.d -Wall -Wstrict-prototypes -O2 -fomit-frame-pointer -o scripts/fixdep scripts/fixdep.c
gcc -Wp,-MD,scripts/.split-include.d -Wall -Wstrict-prototypes -O2 -fomit-frame-pointer -o scripts/split-include scripts/split-include.c
gcc -Wp,-MD,scripts/.conmakehash.d -Wall -Wstrict-prototypes -O2 -fomit-frame-pointer -o scripts/conmakehash scripts/conmakehash.c
gcc -Wp,-MD,scripts/.docproc.d -Wall -Wstrict-prototypes -O2 -fomit-frame-pointer -o scripts/docproc scripts/docproc.c
gcc -Wp,-MD,scripts/.kallsyms.d -Wall -Wstrict-prototypes -O2 -fomit-frame-pointer -o scripts/kallsyms scripts/kallsyms.c
make -f scripts/Makefile.build obj=scripts/kconfig scripts/kconfig/qconf
cat scripts/kconfig/zconf.tab.h_shipped > scripts/kconfig/zconf.tab.h
gcc -Wp,-MD,scripts/kconfig/.conf.o.d -Wall -Wstrict-prototypes -O2 -fomit-frame-pointer -c -o scripts/kconfig/conf.o scripts/kconfig/conf.c
sed < scripts/kconfig/lkc_proto.h > scripts/kconfig/lkc_defs.h 's/P(\([^,]*\),.*/#define \1 (\*\1_p)/'
gcc -Wp,-MD,scripts/kconfig/.kconfig_load.o.d -Wall -Wstrict-prototypes -O2 -fomit-frame-pointer -c -o scripts/kconfig/kconfig_load.o scripts/kconfig/kconfig_load.c
gcc -Wp,-MD,scripts/kconfig/.mconf.o.d -Wall -Wstrict-prototypes -O2 -fomit-frame-pointer -c -o scripts/kconfig/mconf.o scripts/kconfig/mconf.c
/usr/local/qt/bin/moc -i scripts/kconfig/qconf.h -o scripts/kconfig/qconf.moc
make[1]: /usr/local/qt/bin/moc: Command not found
make[1]: *** [scripts/kconfig/qconf.moc] Error 127
make: *** [scripts/kconfig/qconf] Error 2

Here is my uname -a output for those interested:
Linux Dteyn 2.4.19-gentoo-r5 #3 Wed Oct 30 10:35:39 CST 2002 i686 AuthenticAMD

I'm running Gentoo Linux 1.2, and since I saw "make[1]: /usr/local/qt/bin/moc: Command not found", I've also verified that I have Qt installed. I've emerged (Gentoo "packaging" system) Qt 3.1.1, and I still get the same problems.

I suspect that I need a Qt devel package of some kind, but the problem is I can't find one. There isn't a qt-devel Gentoo ebuild that I can find, and I don't use RPM (shudder), so that's out of the question. I checked trolltech's website, but couldn't seem to find a Qt-devel package/tarball.

"make xconfig" works with kernel version 2.4.20, so it seems strange that it doesn't work with version 2.5.61. But since "make xconfig" doesn't want to work, I've been using "make menuconfig" to configure the kernel. It may not be pretty, but at least it works.

I was just wondering if anyone could let me know whether I am correct in thinking I need Qt-devel, or if it's something completely different that I'm overseeing. It would be nice to use "make xconfig" with the beta kernels as well.

Thanks in advance,

Dteyn

try 'make menuconfig' or 'make config' ..... I'm guessing that these will be worked out before the xconfig on the beta kernel.

good luck

As I said in my above post, I've been using "make menuconfig" for some time now, and it works fine. I'm just curious as to how I can get "make xconfig" working.

Looks like I got caught slacking again

Why? I mean, that's the last thing you want to spend your time tinkering with on an unstable kernel.... especially if you can already configure it?

I don't mean to judge you curiosities, just compile and run it and you'll see what I mean.
