Exclamation kernek update and nvidia drivers

greeting all,

this is my dilema, im currently running RH8 whenever i upgrade my kernel to the latest RH says is available, when i reboot and boot off the new kernel X is all out of whack...what can i disable (im thinking nvidia drivers) before i do this so that i can boot into X, once i get back in i can just reinstall the nvidia drivers. im not good with cli yet so any info step by step will be appreciated, i likr to post trusted and working info on my site for people to ftp off of, ill definately post the resolution if i can get a proper one.

thanks for your time

this is kernel-nvidia driver issue. after updating ur kernel, u can reboot ur system, and go into multi-user text via the boot prompt:

1. if u are using lilo:

boot: linux 3

2. if u are using GRUb:
- highlight ur new kernel entry
- press 'e'
- highlight the middle line (2nd of 3 lines)
- at the grub prompt, append '3' (without the quotes) and press ENTER.
- then press 'b'.

this should bypass your X autorun so u can update your X configuration or ur nvidia drivers.
