Unhappy Kernal rebuild

Hi,
I am trying rebuild the kernal for Fedora Core2. The requirement is that I need to remove the Qlogic driver from the build. I need to build this qlogic driver seprately and load them using "insmod". So I used "make menuconfig" and removed all the ql stuff from the config. But, looks like there are some traces of ql drivers in the Kconfig file in the /usr/src/linux/drivers/scsi folder. And there is entry for qla2xxx folder too. May be because of this the drives are getting loaded when the new built kernal was loaded. So I manually commented the entries for all the Qlogic stuff in Kconfig file. After the kernal failed to boot panicing that it failed to mount root fs. I am not sure whether the manual changes caused this. There is a proper initrd file in the boot folder.
Can anyone help me in this ?

thanks a lot in advance.
Naveen

Undo your what you did in the Kconfig and recompile properly. And its kernel with two e's, not kernal..

thank you very much for responding.

Thanks for the correction. But why is that those files getting built along with kernel. Is it a must to have those modules (qla2xxx) along with kernel ? Can't we load them dynamically. Editing the Kconfig is not a good idea ?
Thanks
Naveen
