Keep root filesystem occupancy under control
Hi,
I always "learned" it is important to always avoid the root filesystem of a linux/unix style OS to reach 100%.
I have 2 questions about this.
1. How can one actively monitor the root FS usage % and send out an email if it reaches a certain threshold, and all this using standard tools (I can script it but am looking for a general solution).
2. I recently ran into issues because the syslog logfiles exploded to 1.2GB due to a bad USB connection. Is there a way to set quota's on system directories such as /var/log ? I once put /var in a separate file system but then Ubuntu would not boot anymore (known issue).
Thanks
Sam
