kdeinit launch

I am using SuSE 8 with KDE 3. All was ok but suddenly ontrying to launch kbear or quanta plus I get " KDEInit could not launch 'quanta': Could not find 'quanta executable"

I've tried re-installing both apps with no effect. What is causing this and how can I remedy it.

Thanks in advance

It's probably a path environment problem with whatever user name you are logging in under.

That doesn't seem to be it. I logged in as root ang got the same message. It seems strange that it is limited to just two apps (that I am aware of) both did start without complaint then stopped!

You should be able to do a find command:

find / -name quanta

should return the exact location of quanta, if it exists, then you could verify that the path environment includes that location or change it as needed.

Hmmm I altered .profile to include the path to /opt/kde2/bin and that works great. I'm left wondering what happened to cause the problem. I doubt that I will find that out but many thanks for your help I would not have got there by myself.

Regards Richard

It is a little odd perhaps that you found it in a kde2 directory, when you have KDE3 on your system. Except, that unless you have the latest Quanta+, it is still a KDE2-only app.

The Quanta folks are working hard and there is a pre-release version of Quanta+ that is supposed to work directly under KDE3. The regular Quanta will probably work anywhere as long as the KDE2 libraries are available.
