thank God!!!

if you follow the "mozilla" entry, you'll notice a rectangle which ends before the logoff applet...that's the max-size for all the apps I open

What theme are you using? Is this a theme which comes with ya distro or did you download it?

Also what is the size of ya panel? i.e. large, small?

its the default kde theme (I switched from redhat's bluecurve) and the panel size is small (I have tried different sizes as well, with no luck).

actually, the theme is still bluecurve. I just changed the icon-set from bluecurve to kde-crystal by everlado.

So have you tried dragging that little rectangle thing?

Have you tried closing the logg off buttons etc. (right click on it and click close panel) see if that enlargens your taskbar space...

is there a way under the 'panel' section in K Control Center?

Have you fiddelled with everything relating to the panel?

#Garry

p.s. you might have to wait till someone with RH 8 can reply...

Hi! Sorry for the long wait but I just got back from school. So, saw your chat with GT here I really don't know what's the problem. I even tried removing absolutelly everything from the panel and leaving just the taskbar and it automativally expanded to the right size. Maybe you should try:
kkocntrol>>Look & Fell>> Panel and check the box: "Expand to fit required size". If that doesn't help then there must be something wrong with the theme. Try another one. Good luck!
