KDE - icon theme path

In an icon theme I installed, there are two sets of icons with the same filename. They are for openoffice. The filenames are ooo_writer.png, ooo_calc.png, etc. One set is in /apps/ for launcher icon while another is in /mimetypes/ for document file icons. For some reason, (I am using KDE, so I can only speak for it), the document files are also displayed with icons from the /apps/ version Anyone know what's going on and how to fix it?

look in /usr/share/icons or /usr/share/pixmaps for a directory named mimetypes, that should be where the document mimetype icons go, although it also depends on the distro (Slackware's KDE build goes in /opt/kde)...
