KDE Hangs at Starting System Services...

When KDE reaches the Starting System Services choice, it hangs. Then, the box goes off the screen and KDE just sits there, with no desktop. A few minutes later, KDE comes up. What is wrong and how do I fix it?

Hi,
Please delete the file ".DCOPserver*" and its link from ur home directory (in which it is giving logging problem) and copy this file from some correct user home directory( logging in which gives no error) and create its link from the same directory(i.e ur probleming homedirectory) and restart the Xserver.

Does this really work? I have the same problem, except it started happening after I installed a new soundcard and it hangs at "initializing perihferals" at 42%. Cant't log in as root of normal user. This seems to be a common problem. I've been looking through these forums looking for a solution for an hour and every single post is unsolved.

Also, because I can't log into any accounts, could someone post a good .DCOPserver so I can use it?

Hi foretz,

pls login in text mode as super user and create a new user. then now u have .DCOPserver set of files.
copy as per above instructions.
