kde based applications crash

Greetings

There are two users on my PC. I use fluxbox and Jones used KDE. Everything was lovely until Jones may have deleted a hidden kde file. Now, whenever she uses something like kppp or k3b or anything kde related, it seems to work but when you exit the program, several boxes pop up saying this crashed or this crashed.....some programs like k3b won't work at all. I have switched her to gnome and is ok. I tried deleting her .kdeconfig and reinstalling from the disk, but still get the same problem. Can someone point me in the right direction? I am not sure how to completly remove kde and reinstall it without messing up everything. I am using slackware 9.1 Everything else is fine...just things related to kde.

this is what I get with kde backtrace when close kbackgammon:

try

log in as su in Konsole windows type/paste

chown -R Jones:users /home/Jones/*

  1. chown says who can touch a file/folder
  2. this changes who has full permission of every file in Home Jones
  3. -R recursivlily (keeps going into all folders).
  4. KDE reads and write a lot of info into folders in /home/

  5. owner:group
  6. users is the default group for accounts that you add to mandriva.
if it fails

use you account and delete or rename this folder (all kde specific settings will be lost but should stop the crashing)

/home/Jones/.kde/

hi....thanks for the reply. I am a little worried about trying your suggestion:

"if it fails use you account and delete or rename this folder (all kde specific settings will be lost but should stop
the crashing)

/home/Jones/.kde/"

Things for the most work, it's just when I exit the program I get the crash screen. Above you say all kde specific settings will be lost? What do you mean there?

thanks

it will forget

konqueror settings

you'll basically end up with a fresh install of kde.

amarok cache an playlists
konqueror favourites
menus go back to default
window settings are forgotten etc.

it wont cause anything to other user accounts.

best rename the.kde folder though
