KDE and X11 help **SOLVED*

Hey, I finally finished installing KDE 3.3.2 on my Gentoo Linux computer. I managed to get X to start at boot-up, but it starts TWM rather than KDE. I tried editing the ~/.xinitrc file so it only said "exec startkde," without the quotes and comma, which didn't work. I also tried deleting it and making a ~/.xsession file so it only said "startkde," once again without the quotes or comma, but that didn't work either.

I alread edited /etc/rc.conf to change DISPLAYMANAGER to "kdm" and XSESSION to "kde-3.3.2" but nonetheless, it still boots up to TWM, or whatever the name of that ugly, minimal GUI is called.

Any tips..?

P.S. I'm well aware of running "startkde" in Xterm in TWM, but it runs KDE within TWM. I'm trying to make it so when I boot-up the machine, KDE will start.

- NirJ

EDIT: Thanks for everybody's help, I found out what the problem was. In the rc.conf file, DISPLAYMANAGER and XSESSION were written as comments rather than variables. Gotta watch out for that...

Anway, thanks to everyone who helped out ;-)

In addition to setting the correct variables in /etc/rc.conf you need to add xdm to the default run-level ie:

# nano -w /etc/rc.conf

XSESSION="kde-3.3.2"
DISPLAYMANAGER="kdm"

and then at a root prompt type:

# rc-update add xdm default
