kapm-idled eating up cpu

hello all,
it appears that i have a process eating up quite a bit of my CPU. here's what a get with top:

3 root 17 0 0 0 0 SW 33.3 0.0 7645m kapm-idled

33.3 being the cpu of course.

i've tried to kill it using top, and also kill -15 pid, as well as kill -9 pid. but no effect.

any suggestions?

That's the process within the kernel that looks for something to do; the only way to kill it is to turn off your machine! When this process is the most intensive user of resources, that means that your system is idle most of the time. In other words, it's the exact opposite of "eating up the CPU."
