Just a quickie

Just got back from a pleasantly lazy long weekend "up north" and got the latest edition of a mag that I have subscribed to since I first got a computer.

It's probably not the sort of mag that most of you would bother with as it is aimed at populist technology i.e. window$ based stuff and beginners (me?).

But as I tore off the wrapper, I spotted a penguin on the cover, and you could have knocked me down with a feather when I was reading "pick up a penguin - linux explained".

Previously, the only reference I had seen in said magazine vaguely hinted that linux was only for strange people with green skin, warts and antennae growing from one of 3 heads.

As I plough through the article, I glance down at the column marked resources, and I see none other than LQ listed as a place to come for general help from "experts".

So well done one and all, gold stars all round. You have achieved a mention in UK mainstream computer press (for nuggets like me).

Keep up the good works - still an excellent for n00b's to come!!!

nanoo nanoo

regards

John

p.s. I shall now proceed to finish the half bottle of brandy that I have bought on all your behalves - yum yum!!!! oh and I think I am correct in saying that computeractive has the largest circulation of any computer mag in the UK

Eh John, mail Jeremy about that one, he'd love to hear about it if he misses this thread.

Cheers,

I'll be sure to pick up a copy of this so I can see for myself.
This is the best place for newbies to come for help, after they've searched for answers and didn't find any.

Niceone! I know we've been mentioned before in Linux Format (by me, apart from in the polls), but being mentioned in CA is definitely good! Good work everyone! And, John, thanks for the brandy!

I'm happy to be part of this forum (only as a User... newbie in fact)... But I think that a mention on magazines is just a reflex of the good work of the moderators. Thanks bigjohn (and you could have invited me over for that brandy )

Sorry that I couldn't get everyone a drink but it was only a half bottle (about the right size for a pint glass with the requisite amount of coke and ice), but on the other hand you are also greedy buggers, cos no one told me that if I pour the drink on the keyboard, all I get is soggy trousers - I mean there's not much that can't be done with the net these days, so come on you developers and trekkies, how about the time travel and matter transfer!!!! (saves me the hell of getting a new keyboard and dry trousers!)

regards

John

yeah... Time travel and matter transfer are just a decoration, a disguise for the real meaning of Sci-Fi (in general)

Ok... anyway that wasn't the issue of this forum...

About the dry pants... well that can be fixed... the only thing that cannot is the smell . And the keyboard... it's just a few bucks... I have one... but it will be more expensive to pay for the mail than to buy a new one... so... it isn't likeley...

I didn't tell you to invite ALL of us a drink.... I said Just me... :P

Save the penguin
