Just a question for Linux

Hi to all.
I am new user in Linux.
I am using Suse 9.3 Pro.

First of all i would like to ask if is there any site in the web which u can find manuals for beginners users about Linux systems?

And second i have a program in FILENAME.rpm.
is there any way to install this program using Linux Console. If yes, which is the command.
I tryed rpm -i FILENAME.rpm but i get error "error: Failed dependencies:"

Thanks.

Hi,

Not being any sort of an expert on linux I'm not going to go into any details about the error, but the fact it 'failed dependancies' means it requires other applications installed before it can install the *.rpm.

Have a look at linux online site, it gives the basics I think http://www.linux.org

Also if your serious about usign linux, buying a book is a pretty good idea, I bought 'Linux in a Nutshell' which overviews linux and gives a compreshensive outline of linux commands.

Finally I find the best way to learn linux is just to get into the nuts and bolts of it. Every since I dropped Fedora for Gentoo I've learned heaps on how to customize linux. Fedora tries to do everything for you but Gentoo requires some configuration. But thats just an opinion

You can start by reading here
As for installing programs in Suse you can use Yast or Yast2 which automatically resolves dependencies

I can highly recommend http://rute.2038bug.com/index.html.gz as
an introduction to linux.

Cheers,

how about just reading the SuSE documentation? I should have installed by default.

Plus theres reading here at LQ in the distros forum under Novell/SuSE or you can always look here.

Oh and theres a few bits in my sig that might be of some use.

regards

John
