Jumpy PS2 mouse on my x84_64 linux distros

Good day ppl.
Ever since I remembered getting my AMD 64-bit PC, my linux distros didn't want to work with my PS/2 mouse. Before that I had SuSE 8.something ;)
Then when I purchased my new PC (it was somewhere in October 2005) my same Linux didn't want to work with my old PS/2 mouse. Then I got SuSE 9.3(32-bit),10.0(32 & 64-bit) in the mean time which all seemed to solve the problem but if I load any other distro on my machine, the mouse just jumps (randomly) and clicks on whatever by simply just moving the mouse around and not even touching the mouse buttons. You really cannot work on Linux with it at all. I also tried loading Ubuntu,Kubutu (with its 64bit version) and Fedora Core.
Yesterday I tried loading Gentoo and it jumped too. That was untill I took my brohter's new USB mouse for a test and Gentoo seemed to like the USB one a lot that it worked ;)
I want to buy myself a new mouse but why are the other distros (than SuSE) not working with my PS/2 mouse on my 64 bit system? Oh and obviously windows works with my mouse too. :D

Any idea?
I mean I tried all the latest versions of the various distros!

Thanks

I just installed Ubuntu on my machine (text based installation ;) ) and I think it installed the correct drivers for my PS/2 mouse. Seems that the Live CDs didn't have the necessary drivers to let my PS/2 mouse work on my x86_64 machine. I am not sure about the rest though. Gentoo won't work because it doesn't detect my SATA drive from installation so I don't think it can be installed on my machine... or do you guys know something that might help me?
