JPEG Support

I'm new under Linux and I have a little problem with JPEG Images :
If I want to set a jpeg image as wallpaper for Gnome, it does not work. I receive this message :
Quote:
I don't know how to open the file '/home/ben/Images/tuxrain.jpg'.
Perhaps it's a kind of picture that is not yet supported.

Please select a different picture instead.
And I receive the same image with all jpeg Images.

Eye of Gnome sent me the same error, and the Gimp does not recognize JPEG images too.

On the other hand, all gecko-based programs open and display perfectly jpeg images.

I have no problem with gifs and pngs (I don't have tried with other formats).

So I have searched, but not found the problem :

(I'm under Gentoo)
-#emerge jpeg done -> version 6b-r3
-I have add "jpeg" in my USE (in /etc/make.conf )
-I don't have found anything in the kernel configuration for JPEG support (is there something to add in my Kernel configuration ?)

What do I have to do ?

I had the same problem, I had to reinstall gtk and eog(eye of gnome) with jpeg in the USE flags in /etc/make.conf. I aslo reinstalled mozilla-firefox to take advantage of it.
You may want to reemerge gimp as well.
