While not trying to be rude I would like to point out that this is Linux forum.
We are not at all concerned whether XP is based on BSD or anything.
BTW what do you mean by XP based on BSD?
Microsoft lifted their TCP/IP stack from BSD, and as the BSD license allows this I wouldn't be a bit surprised if there was more that they "borrowed" as well.
Nope, they are two different implementations, may share some bits/pieces conceptually, especially since *nix was built before all these windows generations.
BTW, one day some one will come up saying that XP's web-site is running on Solaris or who know may be a good version of Linux. Let's wait for the giggle and forget it for now.

sancho5, a registered member here, informed me quite a bit about OpenBSD. After researching it a little, I think it is a nice, stable, and very secure open source operating system.
Because of this, there is simply no way WinXP is based on such an elegantly designed system.
However, it is based somewhat on the NT kernel, which Micro$oft has been using since 1996. Basically it is nothing more than NT with a pretty interface, a few kernel enhancements, and several THOUSAND bug / security fixes.
