Is this possible?

Alright, here is the schpiel:

I had two HDD's - hda was all WinXP - hdb1 is a 60G part in NTFS, and there are 3 linux parts at the end - one boot, one swap, and one root.

Well, my XP part died - head crash - so - I'm left with Linux for an OS (which I have been trying to do for a while, had to attempt to ween the gf off of M$ - now, she has no choice!)

Here is the issue.

/dev/hdb1 is a 60G NTFS Partition with all of my music, movies, etc. on it.
My root partition is quickly running out of space.

I would like to joiin the two, and turn the NTFS partition into reiserfs or similar, and add it to the root part, making it a 60+G root partition. Can this be done?

There is a program called parted. You will have to do a web search for it. But it will reformat your partitions without data loss. You will have top look into it, this may help you for what tou need.
