Well, going by the clock it more like a 2000 vintage Athlon-1.1G MMX 3DNow! (Thunderbird) asssuming it's running at full clock speed. I don't know of any MP or XP CPU's that ran at 1100...

No it is not a 3200 that would have to be a Model 10 with a 512k cache. What you have there is some kind of XP Thoroughbred (Model 8) that is running at the wrong speed (cpu MHz: 1094.154). The lowest speed of an XP Thoroughbred is if I recall correctly 1600+, 1400 mhz actual at 266/133 for the front side bus. You should check your setting for the front side bus in your BIOS it looks like you have it set wrong there may even be a jumper that you have to set on the motherboard.

What's the bios boot screen say? What's the FSB? The XP 1700 has an 11x multiplier and maybe running at 100fsb instead of 133... The simularity with the 3200 would be the 11x multiplier...

Well that output you give above is not for a 3200 as I said it is a model 10 processor what does the output of the command I show below give you.

Code:
 >$ dmesg | grep CPU
CPU 0: aperture @ d8000000 size 128 MB
Initializing CPU#0
CPU: L1 I Cache: 64K (64 bytes/line), D cache 64K (64 bytes/line)
CPU: L2 Cache: 512K (64 bytes/line)
CPU: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 2800+ stepping 00

Well if there have been lots of things logged to the messages file then it may not still have the required information in it try this command it still has to be left laying around.

I tried that command and it outputed what I posted in the first message, so still don't know what CPU it is. The tech confirmed that it is a 1.1GHz CPU.

So what AMD CPU is 1.1GHz and have 256 KB cache?

If they upgrade the CPU back to what it should be, is it safe to assume they'd have to rebuild the system with another motherboard, different RAM, etc.? Wonder how much downtime I'll have...

Well there is no Model 8 XP thouroughbred processor that is 1.1ghz there is a 1133 133/266 fsb model 4 thunderbird but that is as close as you would get to that speed/fsb combo. As to rebuilding depends on the motherboard if it has support for the 3200 chip then it is just a matter of taking out the old chip and outting in the new and that should be it even if the ram was only compatible with the 133 then its bus would just run at that speed but it should really be in a motherboard that would support ddr 400 ram for a processor of that speed. So depending on the parts that had laying around/their motivation to do it should be no longer than an hour to change out a mb it is not really that hard to do.

I installed an xp 3200 in a new dfi ultra mobo and it showed only 1.1 ghz and stated it was an xp 1700, can't remember the cach though. It took a bios upgrade for the bios and OSs to show it as an XP3200. Though I am told that it would of still performed as an xp 3200 I was not happy till the upgrade. So try a bios upgrade first before you toss it.
