Look in the Bios

If your trying to turn your system on at a scheduled time you need to look into your computers bios to see if it has the ablity to do that. When you first turn on your computer look for a message saying "press [key] to enter setup/bios" generaly you just need to press delete or F2, but you may first need to press escape then delete or what ever.

For waking a PC at a set time, all I can think of is to use one of those timers that you plug into the outlet, and then plug the appliance into, and set the BIOS to boot at power up.

You can use the cron demon for scheduled shutdowns.
