Is there any way to configure the screen brightnes(other then onboard scree controls)

My screen is a little dark, on windows I can brighten it up but is it possible on Linux? I'm using Debian>GNOME.

Hi.

You can set the gamma on Linux with:
xgamma -gamma X
where X is a number (1.4 looks good for my particular monitor, but it's different for every one).

Play with the 'X' value. The optimum is usually between 1.2 and 1.8.
