is there any linux command to download files from any ftp site remotely

I recently came to know of the command wget used for remotely downloading data ie even when the user is logged off.But i could see that it did'nt work for sites. The same links when provided in the internet browser was successful & file started downloading. It also worked in Linux Download managers like Prozilla but not in wget.Though the anonymous user logs in successfully the download does not start or sometimes the error like
"No such file or directory"
too appears. Please provide a solution to this problem.

I use wget all the time. It is a great utility and I haven't had any problems.

How are you using it? The command I use is:

wget <file location> -P <directory to save it to>

eg. wget http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kern....6.0-test9.bz2 -P /home/hamish

and for FTP it is
wget ftp://ftp.kernel.org/pub/linux/kerne...-test9.tar.bz2 -P /home/hamish

this works fine for. me. i just did it recently.

I can' tthink what setup would be misconfigured of the Internet is working but wget isn't

cheers
hamish
