is there a way to make a local linux server the time stamp server for win2k?
 

i have a client who has 2 win2k servers running as AD. one is getting older and i am sure the CMOS battery is about to go and it keeps losing time thus causing login and performance issues on their LAN. the 2nd win2k server is less then 2 years old so i am hoping the CMOS batter is still ok, but it too is getting way off on its time stamp.

i do have both of them set to internet time with the proper time zone and configured to automatically update for day light savings.

In that LAN i also have a whitebox 3 e-mail and web server running that has local DNS. is there a way to make it the time stamp server for the win2k boxes and if so how would i go about such a crazy thing.

the building this client is in does not have the greatest stable power and they get between 2 - 10 brown outs a day and between 1 - 5 black outs (ranging from less then 1min to well over 20min) so their internet is up and down. do not know if this is causing the time sync issue or not, but i know it is not great on the hardware. yes everything is behind UPS. all computers have their own UPS and i have 1 single one for the cable router, business router, and switches.

You would need to set up an ntpd server. Then get windows to sync to this - I think XP can do this natively, not sure about 2k although you could use a third party tool such as cmdtime.
