Is there a way to change from ext3 to ext2?

How can i change ext3 file system to ext2. Is it justified to do it? Does every distro use ext3 nowadays?

I'll install Explorer2fs in my w2k, but i've read it have ext2 support. Will it work fine with ext3 too? which are the main differences between these both FS.

Explore2fs works with ext3 fine. ext3 is just ext2 with a journal. You can adjust (switch between ext2/ext3) with 'tune2fs'.

I'm sorry. Thanks for the answer. But now, a new doubt was born. What does a journal means??.

Can i modify this journal? Reverting from ext3 to ext2 would give me advantages or dissadvantages?

This is a howto on Converting from ext2 fs to ext3. U need to change step 3 of this document to do ur deed.

For heavens tell me why u want to change from ext3 to ext2 in the first place.

Is not that i want to change it.

Is just, that before, i thought Explorer2fs did not have ext3 support, so i was thinking in changing the FS.

Anyway, i'm still with the journal doubt, please help me with that. (what does journal means??)

Journaling filesystems have something called a journal... they write what they're about to do in there before they do it. This helps with recovery. Say there's a power outage. With a journaling filesystem, you don't have to wait forever for the disk to be checked, the journal is checked and the error fixed immediately. Of course the journaling slows down things a little, but it's worh it.
