Is there a command to merge two files as two columns of one file?

I've two files with, say, the following data

File1:

xxxx
xxxx
xxxx

File2:

yyyy
yyyy
yyyy

I would like to create file3 with:

xxxx yyyy
xxxx yyyy
xxxx yyyy

How can I do this...?

Cheers, Davee
