Is it safe to delete default nobody user?
Hi, i am running a debian 3.0r1 system.
None of the processes on my box are running under the "nobody" user, so it is safe to remove it, with userdel nobody ? ... Cheers Duncan |
I wouldn't remove this user. As you might not have any processes being ran, you might need the user in the future for other processes they're setup to run with.

I once (on a different forum) read about someone who had deleted his 'nobody' user. When he logged in the next time, he was greeted with a message: "You don't exist. Go away!"
It's not a good idea to remove users created by the system ;) |
