Is it possible to not have lock files?

In a certain directory when a file is opened, we don't want it to create a lockfile. The reason being is the application wont even open the file if it notices the file is open.

Can this be done?

Can you describe the problem more clearly? What's wrong with using a lockfile? What application?

the application is eclipse. the problem is if a file is open, eclispe won't even open it because it detects it is already open, based on the lock file, i would presume.

thanks, ryan

I'm not familiar with eclipse. Is there some option to open files read-only? I suspect this would not create a lock file.
