Ghostrunner, np complete... as Garfield would put it, you both need to be dragged out into the street and shot.
I said "SHOCKWAVE" not "SHOCKWAVE FLASH." Go figure out there is a difference between these two things, as there is no shockwave player for linux.
mhearn, thank you very much, that's a handy little command... now if only I can get wine to not have a fatal exception error when I click on internet options.. lol

I guess he don't realize that you can run Shockwave in Mozilla, but Mozilla for Windows (for me) has always dumped me off at a spot where I can install a Shockwave plugin. I imagine that Linux version of Mozilla would be the same. As for me, I'm having trouble getting my ISP to work with Linux/WINe (wants Microsoft RAS). Anyone know of a Linux "imposter" of Microsoft RAS that can be used by WINe to fool my software into working?

Hmm... windows Mozilla, with windows shockwave. That might work. Not a bad idea. And lectraplayer, like the others, what part of "There is no shockwave player for linux" don't you get? No matter what browser I pick, I'm stuck finding a way to get wine to emulate the browser so that it can emulate the plugin too...

It has to do with the fact that I have seen them when Mozilla prompts me for a new plugin. A seperate Windows and Linux version. I'm hunting for one right now. I may not find one because, yes, stuff for Linux can be very elusive at best, but I still think it's out there.
Oh yeah, you can also try Crossover. http://freshmeat.net/projects/crossover/ ...but is it open source? I've heard it isn't.
I bet what happened with IE is that it places its tools in the Control Panel, and when you installed it in WINe, the tools fell into a hard to find location (wherever the WINe version of Control Panel is) or into a black hole of nullness. Mozilla's got its own configuration tools and isn't dependent on Windows to tell it what to do, so it's worth a shot logically.

Crossover is the pay version of wine. And yes it can load shockwave and all...
As for dizzutch, have fun as half the internet is slowly switching over to flash and shockwave and quicktime and your gonna be stuck viewing nothing because the plugins arent written for linux yet... can't just rely on whats available.

WineX is the pay version of WINe, as you got to pay Transgaming to download anything (which I think is a big rip-off and a violation of the GPL), so I use WineHQ-WINe. I've gotten Unreal to run under there great, but little else. Never tried a browser, only games, but I figure if something like Unreal will run, Mozilla or Netscape or something aughta work.
