If they told you can't run a webserver or mail server, there is a good possibility they are blocking the ports used. There are ways around it by serving on different ports but that can get tedious at times. Like some will host their site on port 81 instead of the normal 80, but you have to specify the port in the address each and everytime you go to the site, etc.
I would double check this before proceeding as it might make you change your plans on serving out webpages, etc.
