Installing to a USB stick.
 
So I'm thinking of installing a distro of linux to a USB stick (probably Debian). I've been playing around with moving livecd's over, but I want to actually build it from the ground up. What would be the best way of getting a base install on it? Should I just run the base install disc and let it install on the stick and then use syslinux on it after?

I wouldn't put a regular distro on a flash drive. A flash drive has a limited number of writes before it won't write to that sector any longer. The common number quoted is 100,000 writes, which seems like quite a few, but it really isn't. I'd find a distro built specifically for a flash drive. Puppy linux, or Damn Small Linux, or even a custom Fedora spin would work, but make sure they specify that it's for a flash drive.

Good point.

Are there any Debian or Gentoo based flash drive distros that use Fluxbox? (I know I know DSL, but I don't like the way it handles packages and how it's really limited.)

EDIT: Or even better: How would I build my own setup using Debian and make it ok for flash?
