Installing Slackware

Could anyone tell me which files I need to create a bootdisk for Slackware 8.0? I understand the RAWRITE command because I've used it for RH, but I don't see which files I need to write to my floppy.

Maybe you should just setup boot sequence in BIOS for your machine to load from CDROM, so you don't need to create any floppy ...

The box is too old to do that. That's why my question is about boot disks.

The boot disk images are stored in the bootdsks.144 directory

D:\RAWRITE bare.i A:\
(you probably need this image)

You create the root disk in the same manner as the boot disk. That is, pick an image and dump it to a floppy.
copy D:\bootdsks.144\color.gz A:\

I understand this, but I'm wondering which images need to be on the floppy. I don't need to make a disk for each image in that directory, correct?

If it didn't, I wouldn't be asking my question.

Ok, I just put on the bare.i image and tried to boot. It detects the floppy and just sits with LI displayed on the screen. Any ideas?

That's lilo trying to boot.

You might wanna try a different image (maybe you have some odd hardware)? Can you supply input or does it just go all on it's own. Maybe you need to specify a partition?

:dunno:

I think I'll leave RH 7.1 on this box (Neptune) and install Slackware on a box that can boot from CD (Jupiter).

You need:
bare.i = bootdisk http://sunsite.cnlab-switch.ch/ftp/m...are/bootdisks/
install.1-5 = install disks http://sunsite.cnlab-switch.ch/ftp/m...are/rootdisks/

This is for 8.1

Well if you really want to, that's fine...

But you could try another image Also, maybe a semi more detailed list of your hardware might help someone to point you in the right direction. Also, does it pause at any point, acting like it's waiting for input, or better yet, are you getting inpatient while it's loading and 'assuming' it stopped at LI?

Cool

I waited about 20 mins. Maybe I'll go for 8.1.

Thanks for the post hanzerik, I'll try to download the new version now.
