Installing MySQL 5 in Centos4.4 - removing old Mysql files
hi guys, I am trying to install MySQL 5.0.37 rpm into a vanilla Centos4.4 box.
Weirdly, even though I didn't specify Mysql during installation, it still installed mysql-4.1.<something>
I run a rpm -e to remove it, but dependency issue prevented it.
I then run rpm -Uvh on the new rpms, but same dependency problems (though its other files)
I then run yum to remove the old one, before it work.
Most likely not, use --force and possibly --nodeps to force an uninstall. But then again, if you're trying to upgrade an RPM and it's complaining about dependencies, it's best to install such dependencies.
If you are using CentOS, google for CentOSPlus. It is a repo with some software like MySQL 5, PHP 5 and modified kernels with various supports. Cool Stuff. Add the centosplus repo and all your dependancies should be taken care of if you do a yum update mysql-server....
