Installing Linux Apps in Yellowdog
I recently installed YDL 3.01 on my Performa 6360. I am wondering what the procedure is for installing applications, such as Acrobat Reader.

i'm not familiar with yellow dog, but i beleive it comes with the 'yellow dog linux updater'
-- try looking into the program 'yup'
--after a brief skim of their site, i see that they now advise using 'yum' or 'apt-get'
both those are utilities for managing packages.
that, or get and compile the source from provider's site, basically download the source
and read what they have to say about it.
FYI-
Adobe has a linux download (8.9M, v5.0.9) with installer included.
--take it as it is, i've never run that flavor--

Assuming yum in Yellow Dog works the same as in Fedora, if you want to install say xmms, at a shell as root type
yum install xmms
and this will automatically download the program and install it. Also, you may be able to use synaptic as a graphical front-end to apt-get and then you will be able to browse descriptions of programs before installing them. You could probably find more information on Yellow Dog's webpage.

**Note that synaptic does not come with apt-
#apt-get install synaptic
...
#synaptic
