I haven't gotten grub to regonizes a boot to hdc (hd2,0) . If you learn how to do this, I would like to know.

Is you mbr record on hda or are you booting off the second ide from the bois ?

You need to write the MBR (master Boot record) on whichever drive starts your machine

Don't know what kinda distro youse guys are using, but on my distro, the primary drive is hda, and the secondary is hdb. hdc is reserved (automagically, when I installed) to my CD-ROM. All other partitions I've created have numbers like hda1, hdb5, etc. Check your /ect/fstab. See what hdc is allocated to. The solution to your probs may be as simple as changing your boot loader to point to hdb instead of hdc (if looking for a Linux partition). Window$ is very jealous and insists on being on the primary hard drive (hda1). Using grub, you can fake it into believing it's the primary, even it it's installed on the secondary drive.
For more info, do a google search for "Zen and the Art of Using Grub".
