Just need to be pointed in the right direction for definitive instructions on how to install software from various media and the different forms it comes in(ie.tar, gzip, rpms etc).I have been able to install/uninstall packages that were already on my computer from when I installed MDK 7.1 but havent been able to do much besides download tar.gz stuff from the internet and unpack them.Thats as far as I got.
So if there's an article here,or a how-to somwhere else,I would appreciate the assist.TIA
lynch
ps.the pages seem to be loading slowly this morning.
What happens when you copy the file from the media source to your hard drive, then go from there. Or when you tar or unzip it, after you specify the source, space after the filename you are unzipping, then where you want to place it.
Example:
<root@localhost cdrom># tar -xzvf /StarOffice5.2.tar.gz /usr/bin
First part cdrom mounted directory. Second part, the tar command and flags, Third part, zipped file you want to install, Fourth part is place you want to have it uzipped at.
Hope that helps in any way. It early, so If I made any mistakes forgive me, but it should be something like that, or try copying them to a particular directory on your hardrive then go from there.
Oh, and yes, it seems when I am viewing pages, it might be slow since I notied the banner on the bottom of each page that links you to Linuxquestions.org seem to hang or never load. Keeps waiting for a reply from 1on1 something.
