Installing FC5, boot problems

I have a Dell D600 laptop and I had SuSE 10 and Kubuntu 5.10. I decided to replace Kubuntu with FC5 and am having problems. SuSE is on /dev/hda3 and Kubuntu was on /dev/hda2. When I am at the point oh the installation where it is time to partition the hard drive I choose the custom partition option and have this:
Code:
Hard drive
   /dev/hda
     /dev/hda1 vfat
     /dev/hda2 ext3
     /dev/hda3 reiserfs
     /dev/hda4 extended
     /dev/hda5 swap
I choose to install on /dev/hda2 as that is where Kubuntu was. I choose a mount point of "/" and proceed.

When I reboot I get the error message:
Code:
VFS: Can't find ext3 filesystem on /dev/hda3
Mount: Error mounting /dev/root on /sysroot as ext3: invalid argument.
Setuproot: moving /dev failed: No such file or directory
Setuproot: error mounting /proc: No such file or directory
Setuproot: error mounting /sys: No such file or directory
Switchroot: Mount failed: No such file or directory
Kernal panic-Not syncing: Attempted to kill init!
Then nothing happens. If I restart the computer I can boot into SuSE but not FC5.

Any Ideas? Thanks

Hello leupi,

Your partitioning scheme:-

/dev/hda1 vfat
/dev/hda2 ext3
/dev/hda3 reiserfs
/dev/hda4 extended
/dev/hda5 swap

You may have set some labels for each of this in previous installation of kubuntu.

I mean to say

LABEL="/" to /dev/hda2 or so
Now you have installed fc5
both may try to us LABEL "/"
but if you don't have a /boot partition with ext3 you cant use / as reiserfs and to get booted

post grub / lilo configs on previous installations and current one(If you can boot into system and mount all partitions)

You also need to tell it to format as ext3. Otherwise, you are just dumping FC5 on top of Kubuntu and getting an unholy mix of RedHat and Debian.
