INstalling Debian(preferably) on an 44p model 170

Can it be done? I've googled a little bit, and checked the search here, but didn't find a whole lot. My Uncle's company is getting rid of theirs, and offered it to me. If I'm correct, it's already got AIX on it, but I'd like to stick with linux or a BSD. Suggestions?
