Question Installing and Configuring JDK 1.6.0.5 on openSUSE 10.3

Hi, I have just installed openSUSE 10.3 which comes with a version of Java, but I want to install the one that SUN provides (as of today is 1.6 Update 5), however, I can't make it to work, the installer (.bin) runs, but all the environment variables (JAVA_HOME et al.) don't get set, and I still got version 1.5.X when I run java -version, how can I make this change, and tell SUSE to start using the recently installed Java.

Why am I doing this ? Because I will install NetBeans 6.0.1 after, and this software doesn't work with the java that came with openSUSE (apparently doesn't work) and I'd like to have a setup similar to my other computer running Windows, in order to test and program some project using NB6.

All ideas are welcome

Ignore the java version mentioned in the instructions, and concentrate on the method for effecting the installation.
